2024 Chardonnay NEW RELEASE!

Our latest Rouleur Chardonnay hails from 2 vineyards - 40% from the far Upper Yarra Valley, near the township of Macclesfield, whilst 60% hails from a well lovely, managed block near Lilydale.

Harvested within 2 weeks of each other, all fruit was handpicked prior to whole bunch pressing, with a portion (of juice) being run direct to barrel, and some to tank for settling before racking off solids to barrel for fermentation. We topped and sulphured after primary ferment, avoiding any MLF this year, opting for a more pure, linear wine with additional layers in-built via battonage and (12%) new oak.

In bottle, there’s lime and grapefruit pith tang, white florals backed by tightly wound nectarine. Plenty of mineral acidity supported by hints of mealy but subtle new oak.

The 2023 vintage was cool and late ripening, particularly from this exceptional, elevated vineyard on the Whitlands High Plateau. 95 clone Chardonnay displaying bright acidity backed by wonderful length, texture and sublime citrus fruit drive.

  • Whole bunch pressed, 40% direct to 500L French puncheons (15% new) with the residual pressed to tank, cold settled for 48 hours then racked off solids to older puncheons for wild fermentation. 35% MLF and lees stirred twice during 8 months maturation before fining with bentonite clay and a light filter pre bottling in November 2023.
